We recently engaged this firm to handle a commercial lease agreement for our hospitality business, and the experience was outstanding from start to finish. Their team demonstrated a deep understanding of both commercial property law and the unique challenges within the hospitality industry. They took the time to explain every clause in clear, practical terms, ensuring we fully understood our obligations and protections before signing. What really stood out was their attention to detail—they identified several key areas in the lease that required negotiation, ultimately securing terms that were far more favorable for our business. Communication was prompt, professional, and consistent throughout the process. We always felt informed and confident that our interests were being carefully protected. Their ability to balance legal precision with commercial practicality made a significant difference. We would highly recommend this firm to any business, particularly those in hospitality, looking for reliable and knowledgeable legal support in commercial leasing. Their expertise gave us real peace of mind at a critical stage of our growth.

Clear Strategy, Real Outcomes - Delivered by Senior Lawyers

We’re debt recovery specialists, not generalists. Our senior lawyers have recovered unpaid debts for businesses since 2003, from single unpaid invoices to complex multi-party recovery matters across Queensland and Australia.

You get strategic advice backed by a proven track record in letters of demand, statutory demands and debt recovery litigation. We assess your recovery options, explain your rights in plain language, and map the most efficient path forward from day one. It’s advice that protects your cash flow, not just legal theory.

Why RA Law Group?

Strategic Guidance When Debtors Won't Pay

Our team takes time to understand your debtor, the amount owed, and what you’re trying to protect. We explain every option in plain language and recommend the most efficient path forward, whether that’s a letter of demand, a statutory demand, court proceedings or judgment enforcement.

Debt recovery is what we do, day in and day out. We’ve handled matters ranging from small unpaid invoices to six figure commercial debts across Brisbane and Australia. We know when a statutory demand will move a debtor and when it won’t, and we structure solutions that protect your business. It’s experience that makes a real difference when a debtor goes quiet.

Debt Recovery FAQ

A statutory demand is a formal document under the Corporations Act requiring a company debtor to pay an undisputed debt of $4,000 or more within 21 days. If they don't pay or apply to have it set aside, you can apply to wind up the company. It's one of the most effective tools for recovering money from a company that's avoiding payment.

It depends on how far the matter needs to go. A letter of demand is low cost and often resolves the debt on its own. If a statutory demand or court action is needed, we'll give you a clear cost estimate before you commit, and we're upfront about your prospects of recovery before you spend a dollar chasing it.

A letter of demand can resolve a debt within days to a few weeks if the debtor is willing to pay. Statutory demands run on a strict 21 day timeline. Court proceedings take longer, generally a few months for an undefended claim through to over a year if the debtor defends it. We'll give you a realistic timeline once we understand your position.

It depends on the debtor. For companies, a statutory demand puts real pressure on them because ignoring it can lead to winding up. For individuals, or where the debt is disputed, we can file court proceedings to obtain judgment, then enforce that judgment against their assets or income.

It becomes harder, but not always impossible. Once a company is in liquidation, you generally can't take further recovery action outside the liquidation process and instead lodge a claim as a creditor. We can advise on your position as a creditor and, in some cases, whether pursuing a director personally is an option.

You don't strictly need one, but a letter from a law firm carries more weight than one from the business itself, and often gets paid faster because it signals you're serious about court action. We also make sure the letter is legally sound so it holds up if the matter progresses.

Yes. While we're Brisbane-based, we regularly recover debts from debtors across Queensland, interstate, and in some cases internationally. We run proceedings in the Magistrates, District, Supreme and Federal Courts wherever the debtor is located.

We review the debt, the paperwork you have, and the debtor's situation, then explain your recovery options and likely costs in plain language. It's free and there's no obligation to proceed.
